A New Year, A New Beginning

Well we saw 2015 in with a bang by watching the Apollo Bay Fireworks from our car with a dear friend. We had about the best seats in the house I think as the fireworks were directly in front of us and we could hear and feel every bang.

Now we are home and our New Year really begins. Firstly we are changing things up a bit, we used to visit my mother and aunts roughly every 3rd weekend but when we do we don’t really get anything done as we usually get in fairly late Friday night and then sleep in Saturday morning. By the time we’ve caught up with mum it’s lunch time and then we’ve only got Saturday afternoon left to do anything. Sunday, it’s church, lunch and then time to pack up and go home. This year we’re going to try going down from Thursday to Tuesday once a month. This will, hopefully, allow us to be actually helpful. This change will mean that we need to adjust our homeschool schedule. I think we’re going to make our week in Apollo Bay about History, Literature and Science. Obviously the children will also be learning about maintaining a forest property and caring for the aged and infirm, lessons which may well be more important to their future than the academics that I tend to hyperfocus on.

This year I also intend to return to study. As I shared a couple of posts ago (see A Heart for the Hurting) I have been feeling led to study Christian Counselling. I have been agonising over whether to go ahead with applying for admission to a Diploma of Counselling (Christian) course as things are still very unsettled with my husband and I and my aunt is becoming increasingly frail. I have considered putting it off until next year or applying for part time study which will add at least a year to my studies. Last night I realised that if I really believe that God is calling me to this course then he will also equip me to succeed in this course so I’ve decided to bite the bullet and apply for admission to the full time course. Now I just need my passport photographs as my friend talked me into filling in the application form yesterday and even filled in the reference part for me as she is a uniform member of the Salvation Army. She’s even signed up to watch Casper and Mowgli when I have to go to the compulsory three day seminars four times during the year. I feel much more at peace having made the decision to go full time and trust God for his provision while I am doing his will.

I have also decided to sign up for The Declutter My Home in 15 Minutes a Day Challenge so I plan to make a weekly update post on this blog to track my progress. One thing I love about this challenge is that you can start any time through the year.

So, on with 2015!!
